Surprisingly Down to Earth, and Very Funny: My Autobiography’ by Limmy is published in hardback, e-book and audiobook by Mudlark on 21 February. I never saw a thread on this and felt like it deserved its own thread outside the Limmy Appreciation Thread due to how hilarious it is. Followed Limmy's career for over a decade now, and his attitude and approach to things has definitely shaped who I consider myself to be today.

The result is somehow both inane and profound all at once; a repeated treatise on a kitchen game that involvs throwing a tea bag into a cup, Limond imagining his first day at an office job, a walk through an underpass, all of it underscored with pathos and absurd hilarity. It’s a lot more interesting in a serious way than it is funny, with sizeable chunks containing no intended humour. While he’s hopeful of getting a short series of Limmy’s Homemade Show produced for BBC Scotland, he’s also delighted with how his Twitch channel is going. It’s scary with Daniel growing up because when I was 13 or 14, if everyone had a video camera in their pockets, most people would be fucked,” he says.

It ran for three series and a Christmas special between 2010 and 2013, and won two BAFTA Scotland awards. it's not a completely encyclopedic look at his life, but does go from his first memories, to school, college/uni, jobs and relationships and some of the mishaps inbetween all along to even writing the book itself. He has long been candid about his struggles with mental health, and spoken at length in interviews of overcoming alcoholism while in his 20s. Its “raison d’etre” was meant to be to talk about mental health stuff, and it kind of does, but I submit that it is strongest for the fact that it shows you a normal guy who has fucked up, succeeded, fucked up some more, and is just plugging away at it.I could talk about growing up and slashing my wrist and taking acid all the time and getting done for car theft and feeling like a mad freak that would never amount to anything. There’s a bit in this book where Limmy says the reviews of his stuff he’s into are the ones that say, I liked it, but.

In March 2007, Limmy took to the stage for two sold-out appearances at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. The book is an autobiography, not a memoir, so there isn't supposed to be point or a higher purpose to it.But he told the story in an upbeat, positive way, which made it a pleasure rather than a trial to read.
