About this deal

While in Hong Kong, Dux befriends a rowdy American fighter named Ray Jackson (Gibb) and a reporter named Janice Kent (Ayres). Each movie suffers from wonky skin tones (in both movies the humans seem to take on a George Hamilton-esque orange tint), to weak black levels, and excessive amounts of grain. Helmer and Rawlins arrive at the Tanaka home to find out if Dux was there and if the Tanakas knew he was going to Hong Kong. Dux makes an impassioned plea for Tanaka to train him fully, to compete in the Kumite on Shingo's behalf, to honor both Shingo and Tanaka. Like I said, 'Bloodsport' is flatter, with large bursts of sound effects, but little in the way of subtlety or directional effects.

Frank Dux has spent most his life being trained by Tanaka to participate in the Kumite, the ultimate martial arts tournament, where participants are seriously injured, even killed. He tells her a little about the Kumite, but insists she cannot truly understand it without seeing it-- and the Kumite doesn't allow just anyone in, even as spectators-- they are especially strict about keeping press out.

Director Newt Arnold, who actually has more credits to his name as a first assistant director than as a director, understands how to stage an action scene, and as long as people are training, fighting, fleeing, or chasing, which proves to be something like half of the running time, the movie is working.

Instead, they're mostly front-and-center affairs with bursts of sonic activity thanks to loud-ass sound effects and the occasionally noisy action sequence. Jackson then turns away, thinking he has the fight in the bag, and plays to the crowd, trying to get them to chant his name the way they chant Chong Li's name. Flashbacks are shown of his training with Tanaka, including training where he is blindfolded and learns to operate through his other senses as if he were fully sighted. Again, if you didn't know, you probably couldn't tell, there's just a bit more body in 'Timecop's audio mix.

While grain is finer and sharpness better than Bloodsport, the image exhibits unusually high contrast during its many very dark scenes. We're really here to discuss 'Timecop,' a movie that I found absolutely befuddling this time around.

The first day of the Kumite arrives, and the opening pageantry is conducted and the host organization introduces itself, speaking about the traditional background of the contest. Neither mix is particularly heavy on atmospherics or ambience, things that would deliver a nice, full-bodied surround sound experience. Helmer and Rawlins are waiting at the airport in front of a plane to take Dux back to the United States. In the arena, the officials are unaware of what is going on outside-- only that as a result of the melee, Dux is extremely late in showing up. die als "Komplett bezahlt" im System gespeichert ist, erhalten Sie Bonuspunkte im Wert der gesamten Bestellung. Chuan gives Chong Li the stiffest resistance he's encountered in the Kumite, but even he cannot withstand the power of Chong Li's blows. The future could be history in the powerful sci-fi adventure Timecop, as a dangerous, time-traveling politico (Ron Silver) sets out to change the past so he can pave his career path to the White House.

It builds on a series of modest successes over the preceding years in the films Universal Soldier and Hard Target. While Van Damme is a much better actor than he was when he made Bloodsport, Director Hyams takes no chances, tailoring the part for his abilities and ensuring that an action sequence erupts every eight to ten minutes before things can start to drag too much. Riding a bus back to his hotel, Dux is haunted by memories of the bout and mistakenly thinks he sees Chong Li's reflection in the bus window, glaring at him. Jackson is unconscious and bleeding profusely from his mouth as Chong Li pulls off Jackson's biker bandanna and claims it as a trophy, shaking it in front of Dux as a dire warning.
