I've fitted a few curtain poles with my husband over the past few years. I'm usually holding the spirit level while he likes to take over. And normally, we've only ever had issues with using the right plasterboard fittings. All Advent hardwood poles are sourced and finished in the UK and all are taken from sustainable and managed resources I am slightly concerned that even this method may not work as our curtain pole and curtains are quite heavy. The wooden batten is a decent size as well at 21deepx92tallx2400wide(mm) so there is a some weight in it also, it's a pine strip wood plank from B&Q ( other brands are available 🙂 ). I don't know what we do if this fails as it will be nearly impossible to get the board off the plaster board without cutting it out, making an even bigger mess and repair job. Then repeat the same marking and measuring for your curtain pole, then pre drill and screw to the batten. Then push where you want it and leave to cure for 24 hours. Although I left mine for about 16 and it was good to go. PAINTING YOUR BATTEN

There is no hard and fast rule on how high your curtain pole should be but as a general rule of thumb the norm is to position it around 15-20cms above the window. If the pole you have chosen is quite wide, position it high enough so that it does not come below the window recess. I wasn't as fussed as I need to use up off cuts and it won't be at eye level. Woodencurtain pole in atraditional woodstain finishwith simple ball finials. 47mm diameterMahogany finish curtain pole.

Ensure both surfaces are dust free and here's where I applied in a wiggle fashion from top to bottom. But above, I'm measuring where I wanted my pole using a scrap piece of card of half the depth of my batten. This is because we'd already marked where our pole was going to do due to the length of our curtains. Then drew a straight line from this with a spirit level. MARK YOUR CENTRE POINT Then my husband took over and he found it impossible too. And we soon realised we must have hit the steel lintel. As we don't have an SDS drill and my Dad's is too far away to borrow, it beat us both. To help your batten blend in to the wall even more, I used Painters Mate. It's similar to caulk but is flexible. I thought this was perfect for something glued to the wall.Corded curtain polesare useful if you struggle to reach the top of your curtains to open and close them. Additionally, they can be used for delicate fabrics that could be damaged by frequent handling. You can also add roller gliders if the curtains are heavy.

I am about to do this in an apartment where the curtain pole keeps coming out of the wall, it is making a real mess of the plaster board and multiple holes have been drilled already to no avail. Now you'll need to measure and mark the centre point on your batten and one dead centre above your window. Our bespoke curtain poles come in a range of diameters from 19mm to 50mm. However, you don’t necessarily need a larger pole for heavier curtains. Base your choice on how prominent you’d like the curtain pole to be. With tall windows and high ceilings, try a pole which will stand out more. A 50mm diameter is perfect for poles which will be fitted 5m from the floor.

However, in bedrooms where windows may sit higher, or other furniture is needed curtains tend to cut off just below the windows. Similarly, kitchen curtains may do the same – so really there is no clear-cut rule on the matter. How far should a curtain pole extend beyond a window? Advent Designs traditional wood stained curtain poles have a French polished finish and are hand waxed to a natural soft sheen. inches is the general rule when it comes to how far your curtain pole should extend past the window itself. The main reason you want to let your curtain pole extend beyond the window by this much is so that the curtains overlap the window and wall – preventing light from seeping in around the edge of the window. Can you hang pencil pleat curtains on a pole?
